The story of Knight's Games...
....is kind of dull. I am an educator, academic, motorcyclist, husband, father and board game enthusiast. I love playing board games so I had a go at designing them. There's not much more to it really. I'll leave the game design to do the talking!
Knight's Games is a family run independent board game design and publishing company based in Bristol, UK. The debut Knight's Games title, Undergrowth: A Tunnel Crawling Quest is due for publication in 2022. When I set out on this journey I didn't have a clue what I was doing and everything I've learned has been through trial and error, engaging with other designers, play testing and by just having a go. I have felt my way through this, made mistakes and learned a whole lot whilst designing and producing the Knight's Games debut release Undergrowth: A Tunnel Crawling Quest. This blog is about the journey of designing Undergrowth. There's mechanics, graphics, decisions, dillemmas and a bit of game design theory.
I hope it will prove to be useful to other new board game designers who are navigating this industry and all its processes for the first time. Throughout each post I have highlighted lessons I learned which may be helpful on your journey. I'll be delighted if just one new designer picks up one helpful tip, but hopefully there will be a little something for everyone, including food for thought for more experienced designers too. The journey of Knight's Games debut game is not over as I write this (though it may be when you're reading it), so I'll keep updating with new entries as I go.
